Why I Started Good Day Optics | The Story Behind the Brand
I didn't start Good Day Optics because I saw a gap in the market.
I started it because I lost someone. And when you lose someone, you start paying attention to the moments you used to take for granted, the cold air on a chairlift, the sound of snow under your skis, the way the light hits the mountain right before a run. Those moments become everything.
My mom passed away a few years ago. She was the person who taught me that any day you're outside is a good day. That no matter what's going on in your life, you get on the hill, you get on the bike, you show up and something about being out there makes things feel a little more okay.
I've been in the mountains my whole life. Gear has always been part of that, the right helmet, the right boots, the right goggles. But goggles in particular always frustrated me. Either they were overpriced and stiff with no room for customization, or they were cheap and fogged up the second you breathed on them.
I wanted something different. Something built for people who actually live this stuff, not people who ski twice a year, but the ones who are out there in the slush, in the trees, in the dust, every single chance they get.
So I built it myself
Good Day Optics started with one question: What would the perfect goggle look like if you built it without compromising?
The answer became our product line. Modular frames. Interchangeable lenses. A warranty that actually covers real life. Crashes, scratches, and even loss. A 60-day trial period where you can ride in them, ski in them, use them, and still get a refund if they're not right.
We named every product after someone who matters to me. The Valorie. The Emily. The Melissa. The Jenna. These aren't marketing names, they're people. That's the whole point.
And the partner with different communities to help raise all tides.Â
Why Edmonton?
Because Edmonton riders are quietly some of the toughest riders in the country. We drive hours to get to the mountains. We ride in conditions that would make most people stay home. We do it because we love it, and we just drove 4 hours to get there, not because it's convenient.
That's the Good Day Optics customer. The person who doesn't need perfect conditions to have a good day. They just need to be out there.
What we stand for
Three things, always:
- Gear that's built to actually perform, not just look good on a shelf
- A brand that treats you like a person, not a transaction
- The belief that every day outside is a good day, even the hard ones
